LASA Mellon Seminar Fund

We are glad to announce that a research project co-organized by Lorena Moscovich (Universidad de Buenos Aires) and Richard Snyder (Brown University) has been awarded the LASA Mellon seminar fund.

Moscovich, co chair of the section, and Snyder coordinate the research initiative “Federalism and Inequality in the Global South”. Their goal is to bring together senior and promising young social scientists from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, India, Nigeria and South Africa to present papers exploring the relationship between political institutions, especially federalism, and socioeconomic inequality. Other members of the section such as Laura Flamand, co-chair, Gabriel Cepaluni, Mariana Prats and Natalia Del Coglinano are also involved in the project.

The LASA/Mellon fund is thus sponsoring an international conference at Brown University and the publication of a book drawing on a cross-country set of the papers presented at the conference. The conference will be held at the Watson Institute at Brown University on May 22 and 23, 2013. Participants will also present their research at the 2013 LASA Congress in Washington, D.C, in a special panel sponsored by LASA-Mellon.
